MCM will be sending out a letter to all rightsholders within the Deepsea sector documenting the rightsholders historic performance. This needs to be verified and returned. We understand the return date to be 22 August 2008. Members are asked to take note.
A meeting of the SADSTIA executive committee has been called for Wednesday 20 August at 14H00. Any items members feel need attention should be forwarded to the Executive Secretary by Friday of this week.

The meeting will take place in the Boardroom of the SABS at the SABS premises in Montague Gardens on Tuesday 5th August from 9.30 a.m.-11.30 a.m. The agenda is set to include a host of current technical issues. Members who have items theyéd like included should contact the Executive Secretary
This meeting was held today with representatives from most organised Industrial Bodies being present. Mr Moletsi from Pretoria, the acting CEO of NRCS attended and outlined the process and the way forward. It was agreed that reference to the SABS will be made on certificates for a 6 month period after the “Name change”(to NRCS) additionally a covering note bearing the logo’s of the NRCS and SABS will go out with all certificates for this interim 6 months.
Mr Michael Young also advised of the pending EU visit of 13-24 October to audit the Fishing Industry for compliance.
It is planned to try and establish a “Responsible Fisheries Forum”. This has been born out of a desire to discuss and debate issues affecting our interaction with the environment with all stakeholders. An inaugural discussion is scheduled for August with the WWF.
A meeting has been set with SABS as a follow-up on previous representations made at meetings between the S A Deep-Sea Trawling Industry Association and SABS – Regulatory. The subject of these meetings was the potential impact of the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications Act on commercial fish exporters. It is generally presumed that the Act will come into force 1st August 2008. The meeting is set for 22 July 2008. Members are urged to present their views timeously, for presentation at this meeting.
