About the South African Deep Sea Trawling Industry Association
SADSTIA interacts with government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other interested parties for the benefit of the South African deep-sea trawl industry. The association maintains a professional relationship with scientific and management consultants, such as OLRAC and Capricorn Fisheries Monitoring (CapFish), which provide technical advice on a wide range of issues. Within SADSTIA, a number of committees have been established to address matters that impact on the association and its members. For example:
o a scientific committee is responsible for monitoring and directing scientific research;
o a whitefish technical committee looks at whitefish products and the technical matters that pertain to the preservation, marketing and export of fish. This committee interacts with food safety authorities such as the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), Codex and other international food safety authorities;
o an executive committee is responsible for management matters;
o a chairman and/or deputy chairman and executive secretary take care of the day-to-day management of the association.
