MCM Permits 2009

Please be advised that the Minister has signed off on the 2009 TAC. The Trawl quantum is 118 578 tonnes. Permits should now be issued without delay.

It should be noted that MCM are closed between 24 Dec to 5 Jan. Effectively they close tomorrow. Those seeking permits need to take this into account.

The purpose of the Levy Consultation Session is to consult on levy fee increases for the financial year 2009/10 as per Section 14 (3) of the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications Act, No 5 of 2008.

National Regulator for Compulsory Standards

All stages in the launchuing of the NRCS are now complete from a Fishing industry viewpoint. NRCS documentation or fish products has been finalised and from today health certificates etc will no longer bear the SABS logo. From today all documents will be endorsed in the name of the NRCS.

Various fishing industry offices have been located in Pearl House since 1968 but we learned some while ago Pearl House is to be converted into a hotel.

President Thabo Mbeki has signed the Act that enables the Regulatory Division of the SABS to become a new separate statutory entity of the Department of Trade and Industry. The Act thus transfers the Regulatory Division and all regulatory functions of the SABS to a new statutory Department, it is called the National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS).

The new Act also provides for the transfer of all employees in the SABS Regulatory Division to the NRCS, together with relevant regulations, including compulsory specifications, agreements, assets and obligations.

MCM response to Deadline on data submission

After careful consideration, The Director Offshore and High Seas Fisheries Management, Ms Theressa Frantz, has extended the due date for submission of data as was requested in her letter issued on the 15th August 2008. This has been as a result of challenges highlighted by Right Holders with respect to completion and submission of the required information within the required time.

The due date has been extended to Friday, 12th September 2008.
